Thornhill Bridge Community Gardens drunks, dogs etc

Tiber gardens dogs etc Lisa and the Thornhill Bridge Community Gardens [corrected 5/10/10] volunteers have worked so hard over the years to make these lovely gardens alongside the canal next to Caledonian Road.

But increasingly the childrens garden is colonised by drunks, six of them today and related dogs .  I am sure they are nice doggies – a rotweiler, a husky and a staff – but their owners don't inspire confidence when taking the kids to play.  Park Patrol was summoned i understand.

It's really tough to design somewhere like this and keep it amenable to parents with children – Bingfield Park has a lot of crime designed out, but is a bit sterile with few places to sit and little cover.

These people sure look like they would be able to work, so why are our taxes going to buy them booze and allow them to lounge about! I for one am tired of seeing these types of people portrayed as vulnerable victims. What about the rest of us who slog off to work every day to support them.

I am happy you reported on this. I am seeing more and more undesirables (yes, I used that word) walking around Kings Cross. Usually loitering around asking for cigarettes and money. I am not sure where this increase came from, but I do partially blame all of the betting shops around. I see quite a few coming out of there, which begs the question, why don’t they just use the betting money instead to actually buy their own cigarettes, food and drink?
Excuse my mild-tirade, but this has been bothering me!

Of course this is a problem but what about the completely neglected – permanently locked and unused greenspace overlooking the canal at York Way Court/Tiber Gardens. This needs addressing in your blogs. Could I suggest the PCSO’s get on the case regarding the above…. 😉

Good grief, is this blog subscribed to by people with no social conscience? Doesn’t it occur to the commentators above that the people in that park might have nowhere else to go?

Thankyou Lidna I was beginning to think I was the only one!!!!!!
