95 Caledonian Road – more trouble in the conservation area

Neighbour Tony sends in more bad news about this new kebab shop atSky kebab 95 Caledonian Road:

The council has put a notice around about an application by the owners to:

"permit the provision of late night refreshment (between) 23.00 and 01.00 on Sundays to Thursdays and 23.00 and 04.00 on Fridays and Saturdays".

The reference is WK/201008963 and the application is being dealt with by Katie Tomashevski, Licensing Team, Public Protection, 222 Upper Street, London N1 1XR. Objections have to be made before 23rd September – you can email licensing@islington.gov.uk quoting the reference number.

This is a daft place to have a late opening kebab shop with garish signage in a conservation area in a row of houses. All the reasons for objecting to the Kebab shop in York Way apply but more so as this cafe is located in a residential area, there is no local need so a late night kebab shop will only cause nuisance to residents.

There are plenty of late night eateries within a short walk around King's Cross station so another one is completely unnecessary.

I’m surprised to learn that this shop is asking for a late trading licence when Star Kebabs, not more than a minute’s walk away at the corner of Northdown St and Caledonian Rd, is open till 4am already. Star Kebabs undoubtedly causes a litter problem on Northdown St and I am currently in discussion with the council about trying to deal with this problem. I would really hope that the council doesn’t gift us with yet another late night litter generating shop in this residential area.

    To Our Councillors:

Please do something about this influx of late night licenses in our area and the types of places that are requesting them.

We have enough tacky take-aways and burger bars and enough late-light licenses. I would remind the members of the licensing team who are so quick to grant these that the last one they granted on the Caledonian Road in our area, simply closed up shop but is using the late night license as a selling point.

this is ridiculous. As pointed there is zero need or demand for this. It was actually more useful to local people as the cafe it formerly was. Why do the council continually cave in to these places which add nothing to the area except a congregating area for late night drunks and druggies? We want Kings Cross regenerated, not degenerated.

I demand the council force either Lahore in E1 or Ravvi Kebab at Drummond St to open at least one branch in north east KX. Proximity to at least one quality Pakistani curry house should be a basic human right. 😉
