I am starting to feel sorry for the fridge freezer abandoned at the end of Rufford Street and now covered in graffiti. I reported it by email over a week ago. Followed up with a phone call (at the same time as reporting some other tipping) and was assured that it would be picked up. But still no one loves it. WIll have another go but this is silly.

I wonder what AAGH PONK means?
I resided in rufford street hostel in 1983 when it had just opened.I was interested to read from this web site that it had been closed down in 1995 due to riots. Also the appearance of a fridge freezer!!!! could you possibly give me more details regarding those events as I always wondered what became of the area which saved me as a youth from drugs and neglect. I am now a qualilfied mental health nurse with deploma and Im eternally greatful to the hostel regardless of its bad reputation. It served its purpose with a number of my friends and myself. yours sincerely, Andy White.
dear william, I am writing as a former resident of 16 randells road to let you know that I admire your efforts on behalf of your neighbours. i lodged with my grandparents at no 16 in 1958 -1959. i remember the Beaconsfield buildings being still occupied, and they were a digusting slum.Opposite from us was a factory producing cork. the whole area at that time was terribly run down and shabby. It is gratifiying to read of your efforts and considerable success. best wishes from charles thain
